The classic boot medium. Our recommendations:
Beware of counterfeits, especially on Aliexpress, eBay, Wish — and sometimes even Amazon: a bargain "256 GB" card that loses your data past 32 GB is a Recalbox support classic.
Your games can live on a dedicated USB device (stick, hard drive, SSD): Recalbox can move the share folder to external storage — FAT32, exFAT, NTFS and ext4 are accepted — see external storage and file management.
On a Raspberry Pi, a 2.5" hard drive without its own power supply may draw more than the USB port provides: prefer an SSD, or a self-powered drive.
A list compiled across versions — recent models from the same ranges (SanDisk Ultra/Extreme, Samsung Evo) remain safe bets.
