TIC-80 is a fantasy console: an imaginary machine, deliberately limited (240 × 136 pixels, 16 colours), for which thousands of small games — cartridges — are created and shared freely. The system is emulated by the Libretro TIC-80 core on every board.
Your cartridges go into /recalbox/share/roms/tic80, with the .tic extension (also .zip and .7z). No BIOS is required.
Since TIC-80 games are free, Recalbox can install a selection for you without going through a computer:
START to open the MAIN MENU.DOWNLOAD CONTENTS.Download games for TIC-80.The cartridges are downloaded, installed and added to the game list with their artwork.
From the TIC-80 system's game list, the
DOWNLOAD GAMESmenu entry does exactly the same thing.
To dig deeper into the catalogue, a script is provided. Log in over SSH, move into the roms folder and run it:
cd /recalbox/share/roms/tic80
bash recalbox-tic80
The script offers a choice of category — Games, Tech, Tools, Music, WIP, Demoscene — or everything at once. Cartridges are stored in a subfolder per category and named <name> - <id> (<date>).tic.
You can of course also simply download the cartridges you like from tic80.com and copy them into the tic80 folder.
