MSU-MD is a clever repurposing of the Mega CD: it lets a plain Mega Drive game run with its synthesised music replaced by real CD-quality audio tracks. Enthusiasts produce these soundtracks, and the matching patches, for a good number of titles.
The segacd system is emulated by the PicoDrive (default) and Genesis Plus GX cores, on every board. A Mega CD BIOS is required and goes into /recalbox/share/bios/segacd/ (bios_CD_E.bin, bios_CD_U.bin or bios_CD_J.bin depending on the region).
.cue file describing those tracks.Recalbox's softpatching does not apply here: you must apply the MSU-MD patch to your rom beforehand, on a computer, with the tool recommended by the patch author.
Then create a folder of your choice in /recalbox/share/roms/segacd, and put in it:
.cue file;┣ 📁 recalbox
┃ ┣ 📁 share
┃ ┃ ┣ 📁 roms
┃ ┃ ┃ ┣ 📁 segacd
┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┣ 📁 OutRun MSU-MD
┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┣ 🗒 OutRun (USA, Europe).md
┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┣ 🗒 OutRun (USA, Europe).cue
┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┣ 🗒 … the audio tracks
The
.cuefile must have exactly the same name as the Mega Drive rom:OutRun (USA, Europe).mdandOutRun (USA, Europe).cue. That is the only thing tying the game to its soundtrack.
Refresh the game list and launch the game from the Mega CD system.
