New in Recalbox 10.1: SugarBox2 joins the GX-4000 as a second emulator.
SugarBox2 is a free and open source Amstrad CPC emulator developed by Thomas Guillemin. As the GX-4000 is built on an Amstrad CPC Plus base, the same core emulates both machines. It ships with Recalbox under the license of its upstream repository; refer to it for the exact terms.

The core is rated with high compatibility and high speed, and it is built for every board supported by Recalbox.
Cap32 is still the default GX-4000 emulator: select SugarBox2 explicitly in the emulation options of the system or of a given game to use it. It is the core to try when a cartridge misbehaves with Cap32.
The same core is also used for the Amstrad CPC computer, where it additionally accepts floppy-disk and tape formats.

The GX-4000 library is made of cartridges: the
.cprformat is the one to prefer.
While in game, press HOTKEY + B to open the RetroArch menu, then go to the core options section to display the settings specific to SugarBox2.
The options exposed by SugarBox2 change from one core release to another: rely on the list displayed in the RetroArch menu of your installation rather than on a fixed list. In particular, check that the emulated machine model matches the GX-4000 if a cartridge refuses to start.
