¶ Overview
The Hyper Neo Geo 64 is SNK's attempt to move its arcade line into 3D, in 1997. Billed as the successor to the Neo Geo MVS, it never found its audience: only seven games were released, and the machine was dropped after two years.
It leaves behind sought-after titles all the same, because they show SNK's series in a shape never seen again: Samurai Shodown 64 and its sequel Warriors Rage, Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition — Garou's only trip into 3D —, Buriki One, a fighting game where the stick moves you and the buttons hit, and Beast Busters: Second Nightmare, the light-gun sequel to the 1989 shooter.
Emulation of the Hyper Neo Geo 64 is young. Recalbox makes no promise that every game runs properly: this is a system to explore, not a safe bet.

hyperion is the only core for this system, and therefore the default one. It supports CRT output. Its compatibility and speed are not established yet: it is the only system in Recalbox declared that way. Netplay, softpatching and RetroAchievements are not available.
The Hyper Neo Geo 64 is available on RPi5/500 and PC only.

Put your games in:
/recalbox/share/roms/hng64/
Accepted extensions: .zip .7z
The games are MAME-style romsets: leave them compressed, do not rename or unpack them.

The
hng64romset (the machine's BIOS) goes in the roms folder, next to the games, not in/recalbox/share/bios.
